The mountain is used by the courageous pilots on hang-gliders who soar high above the village for hours at a time only to land sometimes on the beach or in a nearby field.
Famara is a spectacular coastal site with a long (10+ mile) cliff run. In the right conditions it is possible to fly all the way to the top of the island and back. The cliffs are high, up to 1500′. There are several take offs along the cliffs, the highest having a concrete ramp. Top landings are possible on the lower take offs, and there is an extensive bottom landing area out in front, including the beach.
